Busuanga Island | Coron Municipality | Tourism Development
Coron is a municipality of Palawan located in the southeastern part of the Busuanga Island. It located in the center of the Calamianes Group of Islands.
The islands are largely undeveloped butoffer tremendous possibilities for tourism development. Most of the islands can be reached within one hour by pump boat from Coron town. The islands vary in size from less than a hectare to hundreds of hectares. Many islands have a strip of white beach that make them attractive to tourists.
An attraction is Coron Island which is famous for its limestone mountains and placid lakes. Infrastructure development is not permitted on the island although tourists may visit anyone of its coves and lakes. The island is managed by the Tagbanua Tribe. Folklore has it that certain inland lakes are forbidden to be seen, lest one meets a sudden death.
Another attraction of the area is the presence of several Japanese warships that were sunk by the American forces during World War II. Many foreign guests visit Coron if only to dive these shipwrecks. Calauit Wildlife Sanctuary which has a collection of exotic animals is also locate in the area.
